  1. Pond Aquarium 3D Read Me

  4. 1. Using the Pond Aquarium Control Panel:
  5. -----------------------------------------

  7. Below is a description of what each section of the control
  8. panel does. This controls both the Active Desktop and Screen
  9. Saver:
  10.  
  11. Logo       Defaulted to show the Pond Aquarium 3D Logo at the
  12.     bottom right corner. To turn off, uncheck this box.
  13.  
  14. Sound      Defaulted to Surface (above the water sound). You can
  15.     choose "Underwater", or turn it off ("None").
  16.  
  17. Detail     When moving the bar to Less Detail, Pond Aquarium
  18.     will remove certain elements, such as the waterfall,
  19.     and the number of fish will be reduced. Adjust to your
  20.     preference. Lowering the Detail will increase
  21.     performance on lower-powered systems.
  22.  
  23. Species Defaulted to randomly choose from all the selected
  24.     species. Uncheck any species that you don't want to
  25.     appear. The maximum amount of sea creatures displayed
  26.     is determined by the Detail settings. You must have
  27.     at least one species checked at all times.

  30. 2. Turning on Active Desktop:

  33. If you have selected to install Active Desktop module for
  34. Pond Aquarium 3D, you will need to turn on Active Desktop in
  35. the Display Properties. To activate Pond Aquarium 3D as your
  36. Active Desktop, follow these instructions:
  37.  
  38. 2.1 For Windows XP Home/Pro:
  39. ----------------------------

  41. 1) Click "Start", then "Control Panel", then double click on
  42. the "Display" icon. You can also right-click on your desktop
  43. and click on "Properties" to open the "Desktop Properties"
  44. console.
  45.  
  46. 2) When the "Desktop Properties" console is opened, click on
  47. the "Desktop" tab (2nd to right tab after "Themes"). Then
  48. click on the button "Customize Desktop..." at the bottom.
  49.  
  50. 3) Under the "Desktop Items" console, click on the "Web" tab.
  51. Check the Box next to "Pond Aquarium Active Desktop."
  52. Deselect any other current active desktops. Click "OK" to
  53. close the "Desktop Items" console.
  54.  
  55. 4) Click "OK" again to close the "Display Properties"
  56. console. Pond Aquarium Active Desktop will load (may take a
  57. few seconds to load). See "Section 3. Using Pond Aquarium
  58. Active Desktop" below for further instructions.

  60. 2.2 For Windows 2000/98/Me:
  61. ---------------------------

  63. 1) Click "Start", then "Settings", then "Control Panel", then
  64. double click on the "Display" icon. You can also right-click
  65. on your desktop and click on "Properties" to open the
  66. "Desktop Properties" console.
  67.  
  68. 2) When the "Desktop Properties" console is opened, click on
  69. the "Web" tab (4th tab to the right). Make sure the "Show Web
  70. content on my Active Desktop" is checked. Deselect any other
  71. active desktop's and select "Pond Aquarium Active Desktop."
  72.  
  73. 3) Click "OK" to close the "Display Properties" console.
  74. Pond Aquarium Active Desktop will load (may take a few
  75. seconds to load). See "Section 3. Using Pond Aquarium Active
  76. Desktop" below for further instructions.

  78. 4) Depending on your Windows version, you can also turn on
  79. Active Desktop by right-clicking on the desktop. Select
  80. "Active Desktop" then select "Pond Aquarium Active Desktop."
  81. If that option is not available, select "Show Web Content"
  82. first. Then right-click again on your desktop.

  85. 3. Using Pond Aquarium Active Desktop:

  88. 3.1 Maximizing Pond Aquarium Active Desktop:
  89. ---------------------------------------------

  91. Depending on your screen size, Pond Aquarium Active Desktop
  92. may only occupy a small square of your desktop. If so, move
  93. your mouse over the top part of this square and click the 
  94. "Maximize" button that appears on the gray bar (third button
  95. from the right). You can also click on the down arrow button
  96. on the left hand corner, then select "Cover Desktop."
  97.  
  98. If the active desktop does not fill your screen, you may need
  99. to click and drag the edges until your screen is completely
  100. filled.  On some systems the Pond Aquarium 3D Active Desktop
  101. may leave a thin black border on the right side of your
  102. monitor. In full screen maximized mode, you cannot right-
  103. click on your desktop.

  105. 3.2 To Split the Active Desktop with Icons
  106. ------------------------------------------

  108. Move your mouse to the top of the screen until the gray bar
  109. appears. Click on the down arrow button on the left hand
  110. corner. Select "Split Desktop with Icons." (You can also
  111. click on the 2nd button from the right to activate split
  112. desktop mode.) This mode will allow you to right-click on
  113. your desktop.

  115. 3.3 To restore back to Windowed mode
  116. ------------------------------------

  118. If you have a dual display monitor and want to move the
  119. active desktop to the other screen, you can restore back to
  120. windowed mode, resize it, then move it. To do this, move your
  121. mouse to the top of the screen until the gray bar appears,
  122. then click on the down arrow button on the left hand corner.
  123. Select "Reset to Original Size" or "Restore" (depending if
  124. you are in Maximized or Split mode). Then resize the window
  125. and drag it to the other monitor.

  127. 3.4 To close Pond Aquarium Active Desktop
  128. ------------------------------------------

  130. Move your mouse to the top of the screen until the gray bar
  131. appears. Click on the X button (far right) or click on the
  132. down arrow button on the left, then select "Close."

  134. 3.5 To turn on Pond Aquarium Active Desktop after closing
  135. ----------------------------------------------------------
  136.  
  137. On Windows XP systems, to turn Pond Aquarium Active Desktop,
  138. please refer to section 2.1 Turning on Active Desktop for
  139. Windows XP.
  140.  
  141. On Windows 2000, 98, and Me, right click the desktop and
  142. select "Active Desktop" then "Pond Aquarium Active Desktop"
  143. to turn back on. Refer to section 2.2 for more information.

  146. 4. Troubleshooting Notes on Pond Aquarium 3D
  147. ---------------------------------------------
  148.  
  149. Users may experience slow performance during the Pond
  150. Aquarium Screensaver if the Pond Aquarium Active Desktop is
  151. being run simultaneously. It is not recommended to run both
  152. the Active Desktop and the Screen Saver on slower computers.
  153.  
  154. If you are running Pond Aquarium 3D Active Desktop for the
  155. first time and experience only a black square screen, please
  156. reboot your computer. Macromedia Shockwave may need to be
  157. reinitialized.

  159. To turn off the Pond Aquarium 3D Screen Saver, go to the
  160. "Display Properties" console, then click on the "Screensaver"
  161. tab. Under Screen Saver, click on the down arrow button to
  162. drop down the options, and select (None).
  163.  
  164. In some cases when running the Active Desktop simultaneously
  165. with the Screensaver, the "Start" menu does not refresh after
  166. returning from the Screensaver mode. To refresh or to make
  167. the "Start" menu reappear, right-click on the desktop, click
  168. on "Screen Saver" tab, then select "Pond Aquarium" and click
  169. the "Preview" button. You can move your mouse button to exit
  170. the "Preview" mode and the Start menu will reappear.

  172. In some cases, the Active Desktop will fail to redraw when
  173. you show the desktop. You will see only a black box. To make
  174. the Active Desktop show up, either left-click in the black box,
  175. then press F5, or right-click in the black box and choose
  176. "Refresh".
